Lego Project using Subdivision Surface:
For this project progress from the last time, most of the base plate pieces (1x1, 1x3, 1x4, 2x3, 2x4) the 1x1 stud and cap, the 1x2 grille brick, and the 1x2 and 1x3 tile pieces. The process of making these pieces was similar to making bricks. Mirroring was the main component to make the tiles and 1x plates. For the 2x plates it was making duplicates of the bricks and reducing the height of the brick (not counting the stud top) to 3.2 mm. For the 1x1 stud/cap I duplicated the faces for the stud top from one of the bricks and extruded the outer edges using the 1x1 plate as a sizing reference. For the tile pieces, all I did was remove the stud top and the holes on the bottom and patch up the hole with the appropriate edge loops. For the Grille brick, I duplicated the 1x2 brick and inserted 11 evenly spaced edge loops, and I scaled every other edge loop along the short side of the brick to make that detail.
One major problem I had during this time that set me back a bit was checking if the pieces fit perfectly. This problem had to do with the plate pieces I made and all other pieces of the same height. When stacking it looks good from the outside having 3 plates make a brick, however, on the inside, there was not enough space for the stud top to fit as intended. So, for all those pieces, I had to individually raise the interior height of the piece, so it would fit the stud top.
